Frequently Asked Questions Is there an additional fee for the use of the website? In order to access our �members only� area, you must be a current member. When you pay your dues, you are given access to the �members only� area, and there is no additional charge for this access. ^ Back to Top ^ What is considered a membership year. All dues expire on October 31 of each year. ^ Back to Top ^ What is required of Rhode Island in regards to certification? All reporters are certified through the Providence Superior Court. Our certification consists of reporting an actual trial and transcribing ten pages. More information can be obtained from the Providence Superior Court Court Administrator�s Office. No. A degree is not required. ^ Back to Top ^ Does Rhode Island have a written knowledge test which is required to be certified. No. We do not currently have a written knowledge test. ^ Back to Top ^ Is the RPR required to work in Rhode Island? No. The RPR is not required to work in Rhode Island; however, it is preferred by many. The court system awards the official reporter with an increase in salary for being an RPR. ^ Back to Top ^ Do reporters have to be a Notary Public. Official reporters do not administer the oath; therefore, they do not need to be a notary; however, freelance reporters do administer the oath. Being a notary allows the freelance reporter to administer the required oath to the witness. ^ Back to Top ^ How do I become a Notary Public? A.
